Sightseeing
There are countless ways to explore Naples and reap all its natural and cultural treasures. If you have a car that might make things a little easier, but Naples is by no means large. Here are a few options to ensure you make the most of your trip to Naples:
Downtown/3rd Street South/Beach
As Naples isn't that big, this is probably the most noted place to start exploring in order to get the full experience of how things work in the area. You can choose to walk or ride a bike if you've brought a car, but make sure you don't spend most of your time behind the wheel. During any time of year there are always events going on from numerous sidewalk sales to the Old Florida Festival in Spring. You can stop in for a coffee at the Fifth Avenue Coffee Company and take a look at the many quaint shops from The Lady from Haiti to the numerous art galleries like the Pierre Bittar Gallery or The Phil Fisher Gallery, featuring works by local artists. A block away on 6th Avenue South is the Naples Tourist Bureau and the Trolley Tour will give you a pretty rounded view of the types of accommodation that Naples offers with stops at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort Naples and Naples Grande Resort. You'll also see some great places to dine, such as Chardonnay. For things in the downtown area, you'll probably want to make a stop at Chops City Grill. Although the prices are a bit expensive, you're sure to enjoy a fabulous meal that the locals rave about. In fact, many of the locals were originally tourists and were attracted to the areas climate and exclusive atmosphere. The mansions around this area are a good example of the kind of clientele that Naples draws, and only a short distance away, is 3rd Street South.
Third Street South
3rd Street South as its officially named was the first to be developed in Naples. Much like downtown, you'll see an abundance of art galleries and caf's. You can travel back in time with a stop at the Palm Cottage, a historic building that has been transformed into a local area museum where you'll experience first-hand the heritage and culture of Naples. Right down the road is Naples Pier. The pier was, and still is, an important part of Naples history, and is an excellent way to see the coastline. You'll catch visitors, and locals alike, spending a few hours, soaking up the sun on the sugar-white beach, getting a taste of Naples most famed attraction. Back up the road is peaceful Norris Gardens, adjacent to Palm Cottage. Palm Cottage offers the Historic Old Naples Walking Tour and leaves from the gardens, going in-depth on the local neighborhood's history. Handsome Harry's nearby is the perfect place to wind down, with live music every night of the week and excellent drink specials. If walking isn't your style, there are multiple ways to experience Naples, with numerous tour companies and rental agencies available in the area.
